Alcoa unveils new wide base aluminum wheels for trucks
The 14 inch, 58 lbs wide base wheels, being the lightest wheels in its class, will replace the dual wheels and reduce overall vehicle weight for enhanced productivity or improved fuel economy.
The replacement of single steel 22.5" x 8.25" wheels with Alcoa 14" wide base wheels will reduce the weight of an 18-wheeler truck to about 1,400 lbs which increases payload.
Alcoa commercial vehicle wheels Americas & Pac Rim vice president and GM Merrick Murphy said the company continues to lead the way in innovation and is proud to be able to offer its customers the lightest and most efficient wide base wheel in the industry.
"Identifying ways to improve upon our technology to increase our products' benefits is always a primary objective," Murphy said.
The new wheels come with options that include a clean buff, polished, Dura-Bright and Dura-Flange finish.
The company said that all new Alcoa 14" wide base wheels are lighter, still run cooler, improve tire durability while offering immediate benefits to both the environment and the bottom line.
The new wide base wheels are offered in 0", 1", and 2" offsets that enables to fit all types of axles, with each wheel roll stamp containing 0" Offset This Side Out or 2" Outset This Side Out to indicate offset mounting position.
The company has also marked the roll stamp, valve hole and valve stem direction on all wheels for ensuring proper installation for all axle types.
