Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world's largest aluminium smelter (ex-China), attended the 26th Arab-German Business Forum on June 5-7, 2023, at The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin, Germany, wherein the company's Chairman Shaikh Daij bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa said in his speech, "The world is changing and as we gather here in this Forum, we should take on the responsibility for finding answers to the most pressing ESG challenges of our time to foster a better future for generations to come."

He pointed out the ongoing initiatives undertaken by Alba to reduce carbon footprint and support the Kingdom's aim to achieve 'Net Zero Emissions by 2060'. In this context, he said Alba is committed to achieving the net-zero goal by seeking partnerships to leverage advanced technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage, Hydrogen as a primary feedstock in power plants – which once commercially viable - can be used in Alba's Power Station Complex (Power Station 5). It will lower Alba's intensity level of greenhouse gas emissions from the power stations, which currently account for 70 per cent of the company's carbon emissions.
The Chairman said while delivering his speech during the Forum's Gala Dinner on June 6, "A sustainable and decarbonised world is one of intersections – between the environment and societies, technology and innovation, collaboration and action. As we are facing similar challenges all around the world, I take the opportunity to call for action so we advance together to meet our national targets in order to achieve the right balance between our economic gains and social returns."
Along with Shaikh Daij bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa, Alba's Chief Executive Officer Ali Al Baqali attended the event. The latter participated in the panel discussion on "Sustainability as a Success Factor & Global Challenge: How to maintain Sustainable Growth in Economies?" alongside other stalwarts from the various industrial sectors.
