The Indian apex body promoting the interests of all mining companies, the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI), has called for the withdrawal of export duties on bauxite, stating that the move will lead to the optimal exploitation of low-grade mineral resources by facilitating the reopening of closed bauxite mines, creating jobs, and earning foreign exchange. In its pre-Budget proposals to the Finance Ministry, FIMI said, "The export duty of 15 per cent on bauxite is detrimental to the Indian non-metallurgical bauxite producers and exporters. Therefore, this Federation requests the complete withdrawal of export duty on bauxite exports." It said that India is self-reliant in meeting its requirement and has enormous potential to be a significant player in the international bauxite...

The UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative, started by Alupro, the organisation that recycles aluminium packaging, has received financial commitments from Trivium Packaging, a global provider of endlessly recyclable metal packaging. “We’re proud to have committed to supporting the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative. The programme is crucial in driving further improvements in recycling and addressing consumer knowledge and the role of government and industry bodies,” said Andrew Davies, R&D specialist prototyping at Trivium Packaging. The effort uses a three-phased strategy to educate consumers on best practices, establish a baseline recycling rate, and provide a roadmap for obtaining better rates for aerosol recycling. Its goal is to raise awareness and uptake of aerosol recycling throughout the...

Ball Corporation has announced a valuable collaboration with O'cean Energy Drink allocating the face of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli as the ambassador. The alliance has successfully launched O'cean beverages in sustainable aluminium cans. It was declared via one of the social media platforms that Ball would recycle one used aluminium can for each O'cean energy drink can sold. Aluminium is an infinitely recyclable element that can hold onto its original properties even after the process is completed. This makes the non-ferrous material a fantastic choice for a circular economy, ultimately reducing the carbon footprint of an individual product and making it more environment-friendly. Moreover, beverage cans usually comprise the purest range of aluminium, which qualifies it as an...

Sell & Parker gleefully declared the introduction of a new Return and Earn depot for the dwellers of the Hawkesbury region. Scheduled to be inaugurated on Thursday, December 1, the depot will accept aluminium cans and glass bottles while paying the depositor a certain amount. The CEO of Sell & Parker, Luke Parker, assured the zonal residents that the automated depot would suffice the need for recycling drives that are easily accessible. This move will be skilfully orchestrated during the peak summer so that the collection is considerably hefty. "As everyone would be aware, there is no automated depot for drink container recycling in the Hawkesbury area at the moment," Mr Parker explained. "We've been keen to introduce the service to the area for some time, and in September, we were...

The Indian Ministry of Railways had placed down a requirement for 200 rakes of the Vande Bharat in a bid amounting to INR 26,000 crores. Five eminent companies have shown immense interest in the project: BML, RVNL, BHEL, ALSTOM INDIA and MEDHA. These Vande Bharat train rakes are going to be all sleeper class, and the job needs to be completed within 24 to 30 months. Nevertheless, each coach would be 2-3 tonnes lighter than the previously operating trains only because of the use of aluminium as raw material. Aluminium is lighter than steel and is an anti-corrosive, malleable material perfect for creating car bodies. The Vande Bharat coaches feature an all-aluminium body making it a lightweight vehicle. Meant for only sleeper class travel, the trains would be sustainable enough because the...

Expanding the market share of secondary aluminium is in the best interests of the globe’s green transition: governmental policies taxing high-carbon products, the legally binding Paris Climate Agreement, and the UN’s Sustainable Development frameworks all tie countries to decreasing their carbon footprints. Raymond Onovwigun, Founder & CEO at ROMCO Group “Greening” up the aluminium industry is a key starting point - in 2021, on average, for every tonne of primary aluminium produced, 18 tons of CO2 was emitted, totalling 1.775bn tons for the year. To put this into monetary terms, when fully implemented in 2026, the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism will tax importers €75 per mt of CO2 (the product’s embedded carbon emissions). With regards to aluminium, this equates to 1,350€ per ton...
