Following the environmental concerns that have been minutely observed now during the exploitation of bauxite ore and the also processing it to alumina and then to solid aluminium metal produces a huge amount of emissions, which is now possible to overcome by focusing on the aluminium recycling. The recycling of metal aluminium requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminium from bauxite.

The recycling of aluminium is gradually taking up its momentum and popularity, as this week it was witnessed, according to Orbit Recycling, a German start-up, more than 150 tonnes of aluminium may be recovered and recycled on the moon alone. This would save billions of dollars, the total cost of recycled aluminium on the moon is Є150,000 per kilogramme, which is a fraction of the cost of transporting material from Earth. The German luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz stated that it is not restricting itself to the usage of low-carbon steel, while it is also working on the decarbonisation of its supply chain where aluminium is utilised.

The first comprehensive research report on the recycling value chain, launched by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), shows that aluminium cans best support a circular economy than glass or plastic (PET) bottles. This claim has been established after studying through the collection, sorting, reprocessing and thermal processing, closed-loop recycling, and open-loop recycling in five regions – Brazil, China, Europe, Japan, and the United States.

The total amount of aluminium scrap imported from the United States by Mexico in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021 closed at 45,100 tonnes. On a Q-o-Q comparison, there was a downfall of 1,400 tonnes or 3.38% from 41,400 tonnes in Q3’21.

In December 2021, the US exported 8,980 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Thailand. On a month-on-month forefront, a drop of 630 tonnes or 6.55% was recorded.  In November 2021, 9,610 tonnes of aluminium scrap was exported to Thailand from the United States, heightened by 5,130 tonnes from 4,480 tonnes in October 2021.

Space specialists believe that there are approximately 100 million pieces of space trash orbiting the Earth, weighing around 8,000 tonnes, the majority of which is satellite and rocket debris.
