The decision means prices charged to first suppliers (beverage companies that supply eligible drink containers into the Victorian market) will remain unchanged from 1 August 2026 through to January 2027.
VicReturn CEO, Matt Davis said pricing reviews are conducted every six months to ensure the scheme remains financially sustainable, with costs such as refund point operations, logistics and material processing factored into the price per container.

While the volume of containers returned for recycling remains steady, Mr Davis said VicReturn is focused on maintaining a balanced approach to pricing.
“As a not-for-profit scheme coordinator, our role is to ensure we have sufficient funding to operate the scheme effectively, while not retaining surplus funds unnecessarily.
“This review confirms that the current pricing structure continues to strike that balance, even as the scheme grows and matures,” he said.
For beverage manufacturers and the broader packaging supply chain, stable pricing provides greater cost certainty while supporting ongoing investment in collection infrastructure and high-quality recycling outcomes.
VicReturn will continue to monitor scheme performance and cost drivers, with the next pricing review scheduled for October 2026.
“The contribution of first suppliers remains critical to the success of Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. Together, we’re supporting a more sustainable, circular economy for Victoria,” Mr Davis said.
