Presently, serving as the Chief Operating Officer, Fuller has been a key figure in Sonoco’s operational strategy since 2020. His remit has included oversight of global consumer and industrial businesses, diversified operations, and information technology. Alongside these responsibilities, he was recently asked to take on additional leadership duties as interim chief executive officer of Sonoco’s Metal Packaging EMEA business.

Sonoco has confirmed that the chief operating officer position will not be refilled following Fuller’s departure. Instead, the company will transition to a streamlined reporting structure under which the presidents of its individual business units will report directly to Howard Coker, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Coker acknowledged Fuller’s long-standing influence on the organisation, describing him as a leader who consistently delivered results while embracing complex challenges.

“Rodger is an exceptional business operator and widely respected leader in the paper and packaging industry. He has always been willing to take on new challenges and drive for improved operational and financial performance for our company”, said Coker

He added that the company was grateful for Fuller’s decades of service and commitment, noting that his contribution had left a lasting mark on the business.

Fuller’s career at Sonoco began in 1985 in a customer service role, from which he steadily advanced into senior management. Over the years, he held a series of leadership positions spanning both North America and Europe. These included executive vice president of global operations, senior vice president of global consumer packaging, display and packaging and protective solutions, and Senior Vice President of paper and engineered carriers, among other senior assignments.

Reflecting on his career, Fuller said his time at Sonoco had been defined by collaboration and transformation.

“It’s been my honour to work alongside so many talented people at Sonoco and participate in the extraordinary progress we have achieved during my tenure in transforming the company into a global leader in consumer and industrial metal and paper packaging,” said Fuller
