The new high-bay warehouse at Lotte Aluminium can accommodate 500 coils or up to 6,000 tons of load capacity. Two stacker cranes in one aisle, integrated coil transport systems, and a range of automation solutions reduce handling by 30 to 60 per cent and ensure direct access to every product. The AMOVA warehouse management software, seamlessly integrated into SMS group’s MES and QES, provides real-time material tracking and contributes significantly to the digitalisation and optimisation of production processes

On November 19, 2025, US aluminium manufacturer Lotte Aluminium USA LLC granted AMOVA, a brand of SMS group, the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for the supplied high-bay store. For Lotte Aluminium, this innovative high-bay store is a milestone in terms of both coil logistics and process digitalisation. The excellent partnership between the AMOVA and Lotte Aluminium project teams is what made this success possible.

The new high-bay warehouse supplied by AMOVA is a cornerstone of Lotte’s operations. With the capacity to store 500 coils or up to 6,000 tons of material, the warehouse features two stacker cranes that operate in a single aisle. This system provides direct access to each product, minimising unnecessary movements and enhancing efficiency by reducing handling by 30 to 60 per cent. The integrated coil transport systems connect all handling activities and are backed by advanced automation equipment and a proprietary warehouse management system.

AMOVA’s warehouse management software plays a pivotal role in optimising operations. It offers precise material tracking and real-time location updates to ensure that no product is lost and that operational efficiency is maximised. Seamlessly integrated with SMS’s manufacturing execution suite (MES) and quality execution suite (QES), it further enhances quality control and customisation throughout the plant.
AMOVA’s role in this project is crucial. Based on more than three decades of experience in the design and manufacturing of high-bay storage systems, AMOVA is unparalleled in its ability to handle heavy loads of up to 50 tons. Comprehensive intralogistics solutions include transport systems and automation to ensure the seamless integration and optimisation of material flow.” Markus Schneider, Project Director Sales, AMOVA.
Lotte Aluminium’s new production facility in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is dedicated to producing aluminium cathode foils. These foils will be integral to manufacturing lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. Lotte Aluminium and AMOVA have built a strategic partnership focusing on logistics and digitalisation, and aimed at combining advanced manufacturing capabilities with state-of-the-art logistics solutions.
AMOVA’s high-bay warehouse technology, in particular the automated high-bay stores, offers significant advantages over manual transport systems. Automated logistics systems are designed to handle the transport and storage of materials more efficiently and with less damage. This is especially important for highly sensitive materials that require careful handling.
