Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that the Wenshan City smelting facility of Yunnan Sunho Aluminium bagged the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) and Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V1 (2017) Certifications at the same time. The factory has an annual output capacity of 900,000 tonnes and is powered by hydropower. In 2022 the company joined ASI as a new production and transformation member.
"We are very pleased to have passed the ASI performance standard certification, which is an affirmation of our company's low-carbon, clean and sustainable development work. We will continue to implement our commitment to responsible production, procurement and management of aluminum, and establish a reliable, responsible and sustainable aluminum industry chain with all members," said Zhang Wenzhang, General Manager at Yunnan Sunho Aluminum.

The ASI Certification programme, which was established after intensive multi-stakeholder input, is the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) sets environmental, social, and governance principles and standards to address sustainability challenges across the aluminium value chain.
The ASI CoC Standard V1 (2017) specifies the standards for establishing a Chain of Custody for material generated and processed along the value chain into various downstream industries. The application of ASI's CoC Standard connects proven practises at different stages of the supply chain - certified under the ASI Performance Standard - to the goods manufactured by ASI Certified Entities.
“We congratulate Yunnan Sunho Aluminum Co., Ltd. for achieving dual ASI Certification at its Wenshan City, China aluminium smelter. The company’s certification is a notable milestone for an important global aluminium producer that relies on hydropower for its operations. Its achievement highlights the company’s commitment to responsible practices and support for the move to a more responsible aluminium value chain,” added Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
