
The world primary aluminium production continued to decrease in September 2021 by 3.20 per cent month-on-month to stand at 5.508 million tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute. In August 2021, the output was 5.690 million tonnes, down by 0.75 per cent from 5.733 million tonnes in July.

However, on a year-on-year calculation, the world production in September stood 1.77 per cent higher from 5.412 million tonnes.
Total production in Q3 2021 (July-September) came in at 16.931 million tonnes, essentially unchanged from 16.922 million tonnes in Q2 2021 but 3.22 per cent more than 16.402 million tonnes a year ago.
From January to September, the output totalled 50.639 million tonnes, 4.40 per cent higher than 48.504 million tonnes during the same period last year.
The average daily production of primary aluminium in September was 183,600 tonnes compared to 183,500 tonnes in August.
China, the world’s largest producer of aluminium, churned out 3.183 million tonnes in September 2021, which was 3.22 per cent less than 3.289 million tonnes a month ago. In Q3, the country produced total 9.799 million tonnes, up by 0.28 per cent from 9.827 million tonnes in Q2 2021.
In the Gulf countries, the primary aluminium production in September 2021 stood at 487,000 tonnes, reflecting a month-on-month downfall of 3.37 per cent from 504,000 tonnes. However, on a year-on-year calculation, the output in September stood 3.84 per cent higher than 469,000 tonnes. In Q3 2021, the Gulf countries’ total production was 1.487 million tonnes, 2.69 per cent more than 1.448 million tonnes in Q2.
