
Global alumina production stood at 11.840 million tonnes in December 2020, an increase of 5.06% from 11.270 million tonnes in December 2019, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on Tuesday, 26 January 2021. On a month-on-month comparison, the output rose 4% from 11.376 million tonnes.

For the full year of 2020, total alumina production stood at 133.775 million tonnes, an increase of 1.41% from 131.910 million tonnes for the full year of 2019.
In Africa and Asia ex-China, alumina production increased by 20.15% year-on-year and climbed by 4.78% month-on-month to 1.097 million tonne tonnes in December 2020. In January-December, output came in at 12.395 million tonnes, up from 10.329 million tonnes in January-December 2019.
In Oceania, alumina production stood at 1.847 million tonnes in December and 21.171 million tonnes for the full year 2020.That was up from 1.814 million tonnes YoY and 20.491 million tonnes YoY.
China’s estimated alumina production stood at 6.230 million tonnes in December, IAI data showed.
