Vedanta Aluminium’s Jharsuguda plant steps up safety game during 55th national safety month

India’s largest aluminium producer, Vedanta Aluminium, is celebrating the 55th National Safety Month at its massive plant in Jharsuguda. Due to this, the firm is celebrating via a variety of well-structured and engaging initiatives aimed at boosting workplace safety and nurturing a culture of shared responsibility among all employees.

For this year, the firm is upholding the theme “Educate, Engage, and Empower to Enhance Safety,” where the month-long campaign aims at raising awareness. With this campaign, the firm is focusing on getting everyone involved and promoting proactive risk management throughout the entire organisation.

Some key government figures, including Mr Swaroop Jena, the Deputy Director of Factories & Boilers and Ms Archana Das, the Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers, along with the employees and business partners, attended the inauguration ceremony. The event started with a flag hoisting ceremony, followed by a collective safety pledge that reinforced the firm’s commitment to the philosophy of “Zero Harm.”

This month, the firm has launched numerous initiatives, which include Suraksha ki Adalat and Kaun Banega Safety Champion, with the focus on sending out safety messages. Additionally, the Indian aluminium firm has introduced Nukkad Natak and Safety tableaux, which use visual storytelling to promote safe practices throughout our operations. This ensures an open platform for engaging in conversations, boosting accountability and deepening the understanding of safety practices in a practical and engaging way.

Reflecting on the impact of the initiatives, Mr C Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Jharsuguda, commented, “At Vedanta Jharsuguda, safety is a core value that guides every aspect of our operations. Through continuous awareness efforts, adoption of the latest technologies, and active employee engagement, we are building a culture where safety becomes an integral part of everyday work. These initiatives reflect our commitment to ensuring a safe and responsible workplace for all.”

At the inaugural, Mr Swaroop Jena, DDFB, stated, “Safety in industrial operations emerges from translating intent into action. This requires consistent awareness, strong systems, and active participation from every individual. The efforts undertaken by Vedanta Aluminium help build an industrial ecosystem where safety is practised and promoted at every step.”

Ms Archana Das, ADFB, addressing the inaugural session, stated, “Safety is a shared responsibility that must guide every action we take. This can be achieved through building awareness, strengthening systems, and encouraging universal participation. I commend Vedanta Aluminium on making consistent efforts to create a workplace where everyone returns home safe, every day.”

The firm in Jharsuguda is aiming to enhance its safety framework by embracing technology and implementing well-structured training programs. For this, the firm is developing smart safety measures like fatigue monitoring systems, intelligent interlocking and AI-driven surveillance to boost hazard detection and minimise risk.

Just in FY26, the firm had been able to clock over 690 thousand training hours and conducted 45 thousand critical risk assessments, showcasing their commitment to a proactive safety culture.

Besides the operations, the firm is also engaging with the community by creating multiple outreach programs. These programs include vital topics, including road safety, fire safety, and preventive healthcare, positively impacting over 10 thousand people living near the plant. As part of its ongoing National Safety Month activities, the company is dedicated to fostering a safe, informed and responsible work environment.
