
The United States crude and dried bauxite imports extended downfall over the quarter by 12,000 tonnes or 1.52 per cent to 777,000 tonnes in Q4 2020. In the third quarter of the year, the US bauxite imports were at 789,000 tonnes, registering a plunge of 45,000 tonnes or 5.40 per cent from Q2 2020. On a year-on-year basis, the US bauxite imports in Q4 2020 reduced by 22.3 per cent from 1 million tonnes.

In the entire year of 2020, the United States imported 3.180 million tonnes of bauxite, which reflected a decrease of 14.29 per cent from 3.710 million tonnes in 2019.
Jamaica remained the mainstay as the highest exporter of bauxite to the US in Q4 2020. The country supplied 728,000 tonnes to the United States, flat compared to the previous quarter and 9.31 per cent up from 666,000 tonnes in Q2 2020. On a year-on-year calculation, Jamaica’s bauxite exports to the US in Q4 stood up by 26,000 tonnes or 3.7 per cent from 702,000 tonnes.
The United States total bauxite imports from Jamaica in 2020 came in at 2.680 million tonnes – 2.68 per cent higher than 2.610 million tonnes in 2019.
Followed by Jamaica, Sierra Leone was the second-highest exporter of crude and dried bauxite to the US in Q4 2020. Sierra Leone exported 49,000 tonnes during the said period, plunged by 63.43 per cent from 134,000 tonnes in Q2 2020.
In the entire year of 2020, Sierra Leone exported 298,000 tonnes of crude and dried bauxite to the US.
The United States exports of crude and dried bauxite came in at 541,000 tonnes in Q4 2020, bringing the full-year exports to 2.530 million tonnes. The US bauxite exports in Q4 2020 stood up by 30.04 per cent quarter-on-quarter from 416,000 tonnes but down by 29.92 per cent on year from 772,000 tonnes.
The total exports in 2020 amounted to 2.530 million, down by 21.43 per cent from 3.220 million tonnes in 2019. To Canada, the US exported 1.560 million tonnes of crude and dried bauxite in 2020 – 26.42 per cent less than 2.120 million tonnes in 2019.
