In July 2020, the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to Mexico increased by 1,700 tonnes or 16.5 per cent month-on-month to stand at 12,000 tonnes, found the US Geological Survey data. In the month earlier, the US aluminium scrap exports to Mexico came in at 10,300 tonnes, increasing from as low as 1,450 tonnes in May. In April, the United States exported 3,700 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Mexico compared with 15,200 tonnes in March.

The above data thus represents that the US aluminium scrap exports to Mexico started rebounding from June after the past two consecutive months of significant decline.
On a year-on-year calculation, the US exports to Mexico stood down in July 2020 by 2,900 tonnes or 19.46 per cent from 14,900 tonnes.
The United States’ total aluminium scrap exports to Mexico during January-July 2020 amounted to 76,900 tonnes, down by 28.8 per cent from 108,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
The United States exported 40,000 tonnes of aluminium in total (including aluminium semis and flat rolled products) to Mexico in July 2020, bringing the exports in the first seven months of the year to 274,000 tonnes, which was down by 32.84 per cent from 408,000 tonnes on a year.
