
The United States aluminium crude metal and alloys imports from Canada increased by 7,000 tonnes or 4.64 per cent month-on-month in October 2020 to stand at 158,000 tonnes, found the Shanghai Metals Market. In September, the US imports from Canada stood at 151,000 tonnes, recording a plunge of 26.34 per cent from 205,000 tonnes in August 2020. In July, the United States imported 206,000 tonnes of aluminium crude metal and alloys, meaning the import volume remained almost flat in August.

During January-October 2020, the United States aluminium semis imports from Canada totalled 1.99 million tonnes, up by 117 per cent year-on-year from 916,000 tonnes.
The United States total aluminium imports (including aluminium flat rolled products and scrap) from Canada came in at 214,000 tonnes in October 2020 compared with 201,000 tonnes in September 2020 and 66,500 tonnes in October 2019. Hence, on a month-on-month basis, the imports in October rose by 13,000 tonnes or 6.47 per cent, while on a year-on-year soared by 222 per cent.
The United States total aluminium crude metal and alloys imports in October 2020 stood at 231,000 tonnes, up by 7.94 per cent month-on-month from 214,000 tonnes and 254 per cent year-on-year from 65,100 tonnes.
In the first ten months of the year, the United States imported 2.80 million tonnes of aluminium semis, 33.97 per cent higher than 2.09 million tonnes during the same period last year.
