UK’s aluminium bar rods and profiles export will log a double digit growth in 2017, data shows

The United Kingdom is a major aluminium products manufacturing hub in Europe. Automotive is the key end user sector that generates maximum demand followed by the building and construction sector. Of late, UK aerospace industry has increased its operations. The world's second largest aerospace industry UK aerospace now stands to emerge as the next global powerhouse to reckon with. It is driving aluminium extrusions and special aluminium products demand in the domestic market significantly.

The UK also exports a major volume of its domestically produced aluminium bar rods and profiles in the international market. Data shows, the country exported 17351.23 tonnes of aluminium bar rods and profiles in 2015, which increased by 36 per cent to reach 23615.68 tonnes in 2016. In 2017, the product export volume is estimated to decrease slightly at 21087.34 tonnes.

The revenue from aluminium bar rods and profiles export in the UK has also increased year-over-year since 2015. The product export was valued at US$96.37 million in 2015, which increased to reach US$99.73 million last year. This year (till November), the total aluminium bar rods and profiles export from UK is estimated to be valued at US$91.4 million.

The UK exports its major volume of aluminium bar rods and profiles to the European countries. The top importers in 2016 were France (677.63 tonnes), Germany (748.07 tonnes), India (612.67 tonnes) and Italy (423.3 tonnes). The Brexit seems to have had a limited impact on the UK’s trade relations with its neighbouring countries. However, the long-term impact is yet to be felt in a full-fledged manner.
