UACJ, the Japanese manufacturer of aluminium products and Toyo Seikan Group Holdings had concluded a business alliance agreement to collaboratively research strategies for advancing the horizontal recycling of aluminium cans. With this partnership, they aim to use the technology and expertise of both firms to produce and market aluminium cans with increased environmental value.

Also, both businesses will think about working together on initiatives to encourage collecting and recycling old aluminium cans along the whole value chain to promote further "CAN to CAN" horizontal aluminium can recycling.
Japanese beverage cans made of aluminium have a high recycling rate of 97 per cent. However, the most recent assessment revealed that fewer than 60 per cent of the can's body and lid are made entirely of recovered aluminium.
A greater recycling rate will significantly decrease emissions because CO2 emissions during the manufacturing of recycled aluminium ingots are only around 3 per cent of those of new ingots.
The commercial partnership with UACJ will help goods develop more swiftly than ever and enable the prompt delivery of environmentally friendly aluminium cans worldwide in the future. With the help of this business partnership, Toyo Seikan hopes to increase the horizontal recycling of aluminium cans and lower CO2 emissions along the whole supply chain for beverage containers.
