
The US exported 162,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap in May 2019, from 148,000 tonnes exported in May 2018. This records an increase of 14,000 tonnes or 9.46% year-on-year, according to the latest report from US Geological Survey. On a month-on-month comparison, exports decreased by 4.71% from April’s export volume of 170,000 tonnes.
Exports stood at 785,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2019, which was a 14.93% increase from 683,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2018.

China, India and South Korea remained to be the top three aluminium scrap importers from the US.
The US exported 33,900 tonnes of aluminium scrap to China in May 2019, from 40,100 tonnes exported the previous year. Exports decreased by 24.33% month-on-month. Aluminium scrap exports to China came in at 191,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2019.
Exports to India and South Korea stood at 24,200 tonnes and 21,100 tonnes in May 2019. Aluminium scrap exports in India and South Korea rose 91.07% and 29.4% year-on-year to stand at 107,000 tonnes and 114,000 tonnes in January-May.
On the other hand, the US imported 56,100 tonnes of aluminium scrap in May 2019 as compared to 63,200 tonnes in May 2018. Total imports stood at 259,000 tonnes in the first five months of 2019.
