{alcircleadd}It is to be noted here Belgium’s aluminium scrap import from France in 2019 is estimated to rise by 3.24 per cent from 78,619 tonnes in 2018. In 2017, the import stood at 76,084 tonnes, which represents a growth of 3.33 per cent in 2018 as well.

But the imports from the Netherlands and Germany are likely to stand down this year, following the trend of the previous year. Belgium’s estimated aluminium scrap import from the Netherlands in 2018 was at 46,330 tonnes, while in 2017 61,668 tonnes. This indicates the import volume to decline by 11 per cent in 2019, followed by a 24 per cent of drop in 2018. Similarly, Belgium’s aluminium scrap import from Germany in 2019 is likely to record a drop of 22 per cent from 50,989 tonnes in 2018, followed by a decline of 5 per cent in the previous year from 53,721 tonnes in 2017.
Now coming to the import cost, it is interesting to know that according to our third party data Belgium’s aluminium scrap import cost from France is likely to stand down this year, despite a year-on-year rise in the import amount. The cost is likely to clock at US$40 million in 2019, in contrast to US$44 million in 2018 and US$50 million in 2017. This indicates a year-on-year decrease of 9 per cent in 2019 and 12 per cent in 2018.

Belgium’s aluminium scrap import costs from the Netherlands and Germany are likely to register a decline as well, in tandem with the lowered import volume. Belgium’s import from the Netherlands is likely to be valued at US$28 million in 2019, compared to US$36 million in 2018 and US$60 million in 2017; while from Germany US$32 million in 2019, in contrast to US$46 million in 2018 and US$52 million in 2017.
This indicates Belgium’s aluminium scrap import cost from the Netherlands to be dropped by 22 per cent and from Germany by 30 per cent in 2019.
