The auto industry falls for aluminium: Automotive World report

Interviews with the aluminium suppliers at the forefront of automotive applications revealed the key challenges that lie ahead in convincing OEMs to make more extensive use of their lightweight products. High-level representatives from aluminium suppliers including Alcoa, Novelis, Constellium and Hydro gave their perspectives on why aluminium is a smart choice for improving fuel efficiency, and what must be done for it to penetrate mass-market vehicles.
Taking into account the considerable growth that has been predicted for automotive aluminium over the next decade, Automotive World also spoke to experts from consultancies such as Ducker and Northcoast Research, before asking technical leaders at OEMs and trade associations about their opinions on the forecasted figures.
