South32 released a statement announcing a temporary suspension of work that is not fundamental to the safety and stability of the refinery.
“We are taking steps to understand what has happened and assisting the relevant authorities with their inquiries,” the company mentioned.
The miner expressed “deepest sympathies” for the worker’s family and colleagues and provided counselling and support to the affected parties.
As WorkSafe WA investigates the matter, Sally North, WorkSafe Commissioner, also offered her sympathies regarding the incident.
In FY25, South32 achieved a 60 per cent reduction in high-potential injury and illness frequency and above 25 per cent in total recordable injury frequency. The company’s initiative, ‘Lead Safely Every Day’, since its launch in 2023, has so far admitted over 16,000 participants, indicating an integrated approach to ensuring workers’ safety and well-being.
