
South exported 141,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys and aluminium semi-finished products to the US in the first ten months of 2018, from 134,000 tonnes in the same period last year. The volume registered 5.22 per cent growth year-on-yea (YoY).

{alcircleadd}In October 2018, total aluminium exports stood at 11,400 tonnes, up 30 per cent from 8,770 tonnes in October 2017, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.

Exports of crude metal and alloys stood at 92,000 tonnes during January-October 2018, up 900 tonnes from January-October 2017 volume of 91,100 tonnes. In October 2018, the volume stood at 8,010 tonnes, up 51 per cent YoY.
Semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) exports to the USA increased to 49,300 tonnes in the first ten months of 2018, as compared to 42,400 tonnes in the first ten months of 2017. South Africa exported 3,420 tonnes of these products in October 2018, from 3,480 tonnes in October 2018.
South African exports of aluminium products account for about 1.6 percent of total US aluminium imports.
