
Saudi Railways Company (SAR) reported that it transported 4.06 million tonnes of phosphate and bauxite in the first half of 2017, an increase of 27 per cent. SAR’S mineral trains carried 3.21 million tonnes of phosphate and bauxite in the first half of 2016.

Dr Bashar Bin Khaled Al Malik, CEO of SAR, said, “Mineral trains transported a total of 23,683,134 tons of phosphate, bauxite, molten sulfur and commercial phosphoric acid between May 2011 and June 2017.”
He further added that the company’s operational division has reached major growth in phosphate and bauxite transportation in 2017.

SAR raised the operational level of its mining freight line that starts to generate additional capacity to meet the needs of its strategic partner Ma’aden.
The commercial transport phosphoric acid from Wa’ad Al-Shamal to Ma’aden’s refinery in Ras Al Khair started last June. SAR intends to raise the transportation rates to and from Wa’ad Al-Shamal in compliance with Ma’aden’s requirements.
SAR transports minerals, oil and petrochemicals, carrying more than 16 000 tonnes of goods per trip.
