
Rusal has announced the first quarter of 2021 results, reporting that its bauxite production rose 7.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 6.3 per cent year-on-year to stand at 3.801 million tonnes. Rusal’s bauxite minings in Guinea produced 2.025 million tonnes in Q1 2021, while Russia and Jamaica produced 1.217 million tonnes and 558,000 tonnes, respectively.

Third-party bauxite sales of the company totalled 17,000 tonnes in Q1 compared to 22,000 tonnes in Q4 2020.
Rusal’s alumina production, on the other hand, decreased 4.5 per cent quarter-on-quarter to stand at 2.045 million tonnes in Q1 2021. But on a year-on-year calculation, the output stood 1.6 per cent higher than 2.013 million tonnes.
Refineries in Russia produced 740,000 tonnes in the said period, while the refinery in Ukraine produced 428,000 tonnes. Rusal’s Aughinish Alumina refinery in Ireland churned out 471,000 tonnes, down 3.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 1.1 per cent year-on-year.
Rusal’s third-party alumina sales totalled 466,000 tonnes – 7.2 per cent less than 502,000 tonnes in Q4 2020 but higher by 16.5 per cent than 400,000 tonnes in Q1 2020.
Group external purchase of alumina stood at 208,000 tonnes in Q1 2021 and external purchase of bauxite came in at 1.263 million tonnes.
