RUSAL proactively submits reports on biodiversity conservation and water resources management

RUSAL, one of the world's largest aluminium producers, has voluntarily submitted its "Biodiversity Conservation'' and "Water Resource Management" reports, the first special thematic reports on these two areas. The report describes RUSAL's overall approach to biodiversity conservation, impact assessment and risk management related to biodiversity and ecosystem services, water resources management and protection, and stakeholder engagement practices.

The report covers projects and programmes implemented by the company and its production assets in the fields of water resources and biodiversity. These documents were prepared considering national norms, international standards RUSAL proactively complies with, and Russian and global best practices.

Rusal is the largest producer of low-carbon aluminium from renewable energy sources, with operations in more than a dozen countries with different natural and climatic characteristics, availability of water resources, and types of risks associated with their use, and the priority areas of Rusal's sustainability strategy are:

• The protection of these resources.
• The preservation of biodiversity.
• The maintenance of the availability of ecosystem services.

To this end, RUSAL has started to implement the following strategy. In order to minimise its impact on the environment and ensure prudent and efficient use of resources, the company is carrying out environmental modernisation at its enterprises, building new and renovating existing environmental facilities. RUSAL is continuously introducing closed-loop water cycles at its enterprises and taking measures to increase the proportion of recycled water to rationalise the use of water resources and reduce the amount of water withdrawn and wastewater discharged. The company also works with its partners and all stakeholders to address issues related to nature and water resource protection, organises large-scale environmental events and regularly informs stakeholders about the results of its work.
