Rio Tinto reports 5% QoQ increase in bauxite production in Q2 2019; third-party shipments up 7%

EDITED BY : HEENA IQBAL 1MINS READ

Rio Tinto reported a 1 per cent increase in bauxite production to 13.4 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2019. Production was up 5 per cent quarter-on-quarter. Bauxite production increased 1 per cent year-on-year to 26.1 million tonnes in the first half of 2019.

“Production at managed operations increased by 2%, with the ramp-up of Amrun progressing despite weather related impacts in the first quarter. This was partly offset by lower production from the nonmanaged Porto Trombetas (MRN) JV in Brazil,” Rio Tinto said.

“The expansion project at CBG, a non-managed JV in Guinea, experienced a slower than expected ramp-up, but is now delivering at target run-rates.”

The third-party shipments of 9.5 million tonnes were achieved in the second quarter of 2019, eight per cent higher than the same period of 2018 and 7 per cent higher than the first quarter of 2019. The third-party shipments stood at 18.3 million tonnes in the first half of 2019, 8% higher than the same period of 2018.
