The British public think parks and beaches are the most in need of improved recycling facilities, according to new research by Every Can Counts. Nearly seven in ten 10 Brits (68%) think these public spaces lack sufficient recycling facilities, following their increased use over spring and summer due to Covid restrictions. This is up from 54% who felt more bins were needed in 2020. Six in 10 also feel that a greater number of on-street bins are required to make recycling easier on the go, and 55% are calling for more recycling points at music and sporting events. The not-for-profit drink can recycling organisation surveyed more than 6,000 people throughout the UK on their views about recycling and the environment.

Norsk Hydro has announced that it will build a new remelt facility at its aluminium extrusion plant in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, with an annual capacity of 90,000 tonnes. Hydro’s extrusion plant in Hungary is the largest in Europe, having six presses and extensive fabrication and surface treatment capabilities. As per the report, the new remelt facility, which involves the total investment of EUR 88 million, is expected to commence production in the first quarter of 2024. The facility will allow the plant to take back production scrap and create closed loops. In a closed loop, production scrap from customers like the automotive tier-one suppliers is collected and sent back directly to the remelt plant. Hydro’s new remelt facility adjacent to the extrusion plant will also remove transportation hassle.
