The ongoing Ukraine-Russia geopolitical has been a cause of discrepancies worldwide. With the Russian gas lines closed, Europe is on the brink of losing its primary aluminium products line and the aluminium recycling units. The European Commission stated that KPS Capital Partners' portfolio company, German aluminium smelter Speira on October 19 bagged the EU antitrust approval to acquire aluminium recycler Real Alloy Europe. In collaboration with Alupro, Preston City Council has launched a programme to recycle aluminium. Residents would be encouraged to recycle empty, clean foil trays, aerosol cans, drink cans or tins and aluminium foil for wrapping. India'sIndia's renowned lead smelter, Pondy Oxides & Chemicals, is plotting to construct an INR 5 crore aluminium recycling plus melting facility at its current location in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, with all the latest machinery.
The gas supply restriction by Russia has propelled the energy prices to surge, resulting in the aluminium smelters slashing production, which are big customers for secondary non-ferrous metals. Europe has shown little self-sufficiency regarding energy resources over the past few weeks. At least in the short and medium term, wind, solar, and water energy cannot meet the energy demand.

The not-for-profit communications programme working to inspire, encourage and empower people to recycle their empty drink cans, Every Can Counts, announced the best and the worst cities for recycling in the UK. As per the research, Newport has been rated the top city for recycling in the UK, while Birmingham has been identified as the region most in need of reform.
Preston City Council, in partnership with Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organization (Alupro), launched a new initiative to encourage the recycling of aluminium. Residents are urged to rinse and recycle empty aerosol cans, clean foil trays, clean foil for wrapping, and drink cans and tins.

Pondy Oxides & Chemicals, one of India's top secondary lead smelters, is planning to build an aluminium recycling/melting facility at its current location in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The project is a part of the company's expansion strategy for 2022, with a projected total expenditure of INR 5 crore in plant, machinery and pollution control equipment.
