
Every Can Counts (ECC) announced the winners of this year's national recycling award competition. Crewe Clean Team, Bodega 51 Pub, and Haileybury School have been recognised for their commitment to environmental sustainability and recycling. Local students from the East of England gathered this week for a special event to learn about the benefits of recycling metal packaging such as aluminium. The event, hosted by Tata Steel's Eleanor Shorland, reviewed the recycling process and provided practical tips on separating packaging at the kerbside. Jamestrong, a renowned Australasian can manufacturer with Taree factories, is collaborating with the UNSW Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT@UNSW) to make aerosol cans utilising recycling technology developed by the University.

Aluminium, also referred to as the “wonder metal”, is going through some significant events in India’s scrap market. The market trend seems to be bullish for the time being as it has been observed that the price of India’s imported scrap aluminium of all segments is increasing.
World primary aluminium production in the second quarter of 2023 ended June 30, amounted to 17.259 million tonnes, up by 1.8 per cent from 16.953 million tonnes in Q1 2023, found the International Aluminium Institute survey. On an annual basis, the output in 1Q2023 edged an increase of 1.06 per cent from 17.078 million tonnes.
The Bank of Ireland (BoI) was named the financial partner of Re-turn, Ireland's new national Deposit Return Scheme (DRS). The plan intends to increase beverage container recycling by charging a modest, refundable charge for each aluminium cans or plastic bottle.
