According to a recent report, Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Nagpur, has manufactured an all-aluminium foot-operable sanitiser dispenser and alcohol based advanced hand sanitiser named Corovirunil. The purpose of inventing foot-operable dispenser is to curb the spread of coronavirus from an infected person to others while using the same sanitiser bottle with hands.

The foot-operable dispenser will require the users to press the pedal of the dispenser with their feet to get sanitiser. Bottles of different sizes from 500ml to 1 litre could be fixed to the dispenser, fabricated from aluminium alloys.
Various extruded and rolled aluminium products have been used to manufacture the dispenser; hence, it can beat any sanitiser dispenser in terms of weight and operating life.
Additionally, the whole unit is recyclable since made of aluminium and is rust proof, said Dr Upendra Singh, Principal Scientist and HoD Analytical, JNARDDC to The Hitavada.
He also said the advanced alcohol-based sanitiser is made as per the WHO guidelines using purified 2-Propanol, glycerol, hydrogen peroxide, Essential oil, dyes and fragrance.
“A batch of 5 ltr sanitizer has been produced and second batch is in line. The device and sanitizer were mainly developed for internal use in common areas but if we get requirements from outside then we can produce for that purpose also,” said Dr Singh.
He added this in-house development of two products would achieve the well advocated “Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” of Government of India.
Dr Anupam Agnihotri, Director, JNARDDC, has taken special interest in this project and deputed a team of scientists to work in designing and developing the products. Vishwanath, Senior Scientist, Samrat, Pravin, Dilip and team led by R N Chouhan, HoD Downstream, are responsible for foot-operable dispenser project, while for advanced sanitiser, Jyoti Pendam, Junior Scientist and Sonali Thawrani, Scientific Assistant led by Dr Upendra Singh, HoD analytical, have been allotted.
