Saudi Arabia’s aluminium consumption could climb to as much as 1.8 million tonnes a year by 2030, as the Kingdom ramps up infrastructure and industrial development ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 137,000 tonnes in August 2021, which reflected an increase of 2,000 tonnes or 1.48 per cent for the second month in a row from 135,000 tonnes in July, according to the International Aluminium Institute. In June 2021, Africa produced 130,000 tonnes of primary aluminium, meaning the output in July registered a hike of 5,000 tonnes or 3.85 per cent month-on-month. According to a recent report, Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta Limited’s investment proposal worth INR 1,240 crore to expand the capacity of an aluminium smelter in Jharsuguda has been rebuffed by an expert panel of the Union ministry of environment, forests and climate change (MoEF&CC).
