Vietnam’s first electrolytic aluminium project has reached another major milestone, with the second phase of the 450,000-tonne-per-year (tpa) Da Nong project producing its first batch of molten primary aluminium on October 31, 2026. The milestone, achieved by China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC), which is the project’s general contractor, came four months and three days ahead of the contractual schedule, officially moving the second phase from construction to trial production. The Federal Government of Nigeria has reportedly approved a power supply to ALSCON, the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria, to help it return to its full production capacity. The news came after the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah made an official announcement during his extensive tour of ALSCON facility in Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State. China’s primary aluminium production stood at 3.25 million tonnes in April (30 production days), up by 9.87% year on year, showed an SMM survey. In January-April, the output totalled 12.94 million tonnes, an increase of 8.6% from the same period last year. “Baikuang Debao and Tianlin continued to release output in April, and the average daily output in Inner Mongolia rose slightly by 400 mt from March,” SMM reported.
