
South America’s primary aluminium production registered an increase of 7.95 per cent year-on-year in June 2019. Aluminium production increased from 88,000 tonnes to 95,000 tonnes, according to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).

Primary aluminium production in South America rose 10.47 per cent from 86,000 in May.
In the first half of 2019, the total primary aluminium production dropped 15.57 per cent year-on-year to 515,000 tonnes. Production was 610,000 tonnes in the first half of 2018. South America’s full-year primary aluminium production for 2018 stood at 1.164 million tonnes, IAI data showed.
Global primary aluminium production decreased slightly from 5.33 million tonnes in June 2018 to 5.24 million tonnes in June 2019. Aluminium production dropped 2.96% from May’s 2019 production of 5.4 million tonnes. Production in the first half of 2019 stood at 31.61 million tonnes.
