Northern Indiana aluminum processor invests on processing facility

The owner of a northern Indiana aluminum processor says the company has invested $5 million in a new building that could employ up to 65 workers within the next two years.
Champagne Metals showed off its new 85,000-square-foot processing and distribution center Wednesday in Middlebury, about 30 miles east of South Bend. The plant takes aluminum from mills, cuts it up and then sells the metal to manufacturers.
Company owner Mike Champagne tells the South Bend Tribune the new plant will serve the marine, cargo and electronics industries.
He says the Oklahoma-based company hopes to employ between 45 and 65 workers at the new plant within a couple years. The plant currently has a workforce of 25 to 30 people.
