
According to the International Aluminium Institute, North America’s primary aluminium production in December 2023 stood at 339,000 tonnes, bringing the output of the fourth quarter to 1.004 million tonnes, up by 2.03 per cent from 984,000 tonnes in Q3.

On a year-on-year basis, primary aluminium production in North America during December 2023 edged an increase of 5.61 per cent from 321,000 tonnes, while the output in Q4 reflected a rise of 6.58 per cent from 942,000 tonnes.
In the entire year, North America’s primary aluminium production totalled 3.9 million tonnes, up by 4.19 per cent from 3.743 million tonnes in 2022. This hike was primarily driven by the output during the second half of 2023, amounting to 1.988 million tonnes. Compared to 1.908 million tonnes H1 2023, the production in H2 recorded a growth of 4.19 per cent, and compared to a year ago, experienced an escalation of 7.23 per cent.
In December 2023, North America’s daily average primary aluminium production was 10,900 tonnes, slightly down from 11,000 tonnes in the previous month. However, on a year-on-year basis, the daily output was 4.81 per cent higher than 10,400 tonnes.
Primary aluminium production in South America during December 2023 was 126,000 tonnes, reflecting an increase of 2.44 per cent M-o-M from 123,000 tonnes and a growth of 3.28 per cent Y-o-Y from 122,000 tonnes.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, South America’s production amounted to 376,000 tonnes, up by 0.80 per cent sequentially from 373,000 tonnes and 4.44 per cent more Y-o-Y than 360,000 tonnes.
In the full year of 2023, South America produced 1.466 million tonnes versus 1.288 million tonnes in 2022. That indicated a year-on-year hike of 13.82 per cent, showed IAI data.
