
In January 2021, primary aluminium production in North America stood at 340,000 tonnes, reflecting a continuous increase by 2,000 tonnes or 0.60 per cent month-on-month. In December 2020, the output registered a growth of 10,000 tonnes or 3.05 per cent to 338,000 tonnes from 328,000 tonnes in November. In the Q4 2020, North America’s aluminium production totalled 1 million tonnes, up by 1.94 per cent sequentially.

On a year-on-year basis, primary aluminium production in North America edged 10,000 tonnes or 3.03 per cent higher in January 2020 from 330,000 tonnes.
In the full-year of 2020, North America churned out 3.976 million tonnes, down by 4.38 per cent from 3.809 million tonnes in 2019.
South America’s primary aluminium production in January 2021 increased 3,000 tonnes or 3.26 per cent month-on-month to stand at 95,000 tonnes. In December 2020, South America produced 92,000 tonnes, registering a hike of 6,000 tonnes or 6.98 per cent from 86,000 tonnes in November. In Q4 2020, South America’s aluminium output amounted to 265,000 tonnes, up 20,000 tonnes or 8.16 per cent from 245,000 tonnes in Q3 2020.
On a year-on-year calculation, primary aluminium output in South America stood 3,000 tonnes lower in January 2020 from 98,000 tonnes.
In 2020, South America produced 1.006 million tonnes, down by 6.77 per cent from 1.079 million tonnes in 2019.
