In 2018, over 1 million tonnes of aluminium foil containers were sold globally; sales are likely to proliferate at a moderate y-o-y of over 4 per cent in 2019, as per FMI’s research. Shifting consumer patterns toward effective and sustainable formats has been identified as a key sales influencer of aluminium foil containers. According to FMI’s analysis, weight of aluminium is another key aspect enhancing the viability of aluminium foil containers across diverse end-use applications.
Needless to say, many countries across the world are encashing on this growth in aluminium foil containers demand and increasing their supplies to other parts of the world. The Netherlands is also one of them, which increased its export volume in 2018. In 2019, however, the volume is expected to record a slight dip. In 2018, the Netherlands exported 5,491 tonnes of aluminium containers, up 93 per cent from 2,848 tonnes in 2017. In 2019, the volume is likely to clock at 5,340 tonnes, down 3 per cent year-on-year.

As a consequence of the drop in the Netherlands aluminium containers export volume, the value is likely to dwindle as well by 9 per cent. In 2018, the value was at US$33 million which in 2019 is expected to come in at US$30 million. The export value last year had grown from 2017, in tandem with the growth in volume. In 2017, the Netherlands’ aluminium containers export value was at US$ 19 million.

The United States is expected to be the leading importer of aluminium containers from the Netherlands, securing 1,684 tonnes at US$8 million.
