NEOM, an arcology and planned city in Tabuk Province in Saudi Arabia, has achieved a new milestone of USD 8.4 billion investment with 600 tonnes of equipment reaching on-site and 4 gigawatts of renewable energy coming online. With this, NEOM has reached 80 per cent of its goal towards the completion of its ambitious green energy plan.

The aluminium metal plays a significant role in assisting the overall installation of wind turbines, electrolysers, transmission girders and hydrogen facilities across the desert region. These are installed to generate and distribute energy all across the region. The solar frames that are installed here use aluminium for its lightweight and corrosion-resistant properties. Moreover, the wind turbines are also made up of aluminium to reduce weight and enhance efficiency.

The achievement of 80 per cent of the goal means solar farms, wind turbines, transmission grids, and hydrogen production units and facilities are in place. To attain the remaining 20 per cent of the goal, smart‐grid interconnections, energy storage, and hydrogen conversions need to be achieved. All these represent a project that is more than usual. It demonstrates the power of metal, money, and green energy.
