They clearly stated that they would not transfer their land under the company’s existing policy.

The public hearing on rehabilitation and resettlement was organised by the district administration at the Smelter Plant Training Centre of NALCO. According to the district administration, the hearing went in an orderly manner. Uday Kumar Mohapatra, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue), also reported that the process was smooth in presence of senior officials, including representatives from NALCO and local administrative authorities.

The grievance broke out only when the policy for rehabilitation and resettlement was presented to the attendees. Several residents raised concerns about the policy, describing it as unfavourable. Many other participants raised issues about land classification, compensation, and the implementation of earlier commitments. Some also expressed concern about the amount of land being acquired and the lack of response from the company.
