
According to the latest data revealed by the US Geological Survey, the United States’ aluminium scrap imports opened the year in January 2022 with a month-on-month downfall. As per the data shown, the imports decreased by 1,700 tonnes or 3.51 per cent in January to come in at 46,700 tonnes. In December 2021, the United States aluminium scrap imports were 48,400 tonnes, also down by 1,700 tonnes month-on-month from 50,100 tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculation, the US imports of aluminium scrap also registered a downfall of 6,600 tonnes or 12.38 per cent from 53,300 tonnes.
In the entire year of 2021, the United States imported 680,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, showed the USGS data.
Canada, being the biggest exporter of aluminium scrap to the US, provided with 27,000 tonnes in January 2022, which reflected a mon-on-month decline of 9.1 per cent or 2,700 tonnes from 29,700 tonnes.
Also, on a year-on-year basis, Canada’s aluminium scrap exports to the US in January 2022 decreased by 7,200 tonnes or 21.05 per cent from 34,200 tonnes.
In 2021, the US states’ aluminium scrap imports from Canada totalled 374,000 tonnes.
As aluminium scrap exports are concerned from the United States in January 2022, the country exported 32,300 tonnes, a sharp downfall of 81.96 per cent from 179,000 tonnes in December 2021 and78.89 per cent from 153,000 tonnes in January 2021.
In the entire year of 2021, the United States exported 2.1 million tonnes of aluminium scrap worldwide.
