
According to the Geological Survey of the United States, Mexico imported 16,800 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in February 2020. The import was down by 2.33 per cent from 17,200 tonnes in January 2020. In December 2019, Mexico imported 13,100 tonnes of scrap from the US, meaning January saw a rise of 31.30 per cent in imports month-on-month. Mexico’s imports from the United States in December plunged by 20.12 per cent from 16,400 tonnes in November to stand at 13,100 tonnes.

Year-on-year, Mexico’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States in February 2020 stood almost flat. In February 2019, the import volume was 16,200 tonnes, down by 600 tonnes from February 2020.
The total aluminium scrap imports by Mexico from the United States in the first two months of the year were 34,100 tonnes, up 99.88 per cent from 29,500 tonnes in the previous two months.
Mexico’s imports in the first two months of 2019 were 33,700 tonnes, down by 1.17 per cent from 2020.
Mexico’s total aluminium imports (including aluminium semis and scrap) from the US were 50,200 tonnes in February 2020, up 2.03 per cent from 49,200 tonnes month-on-month but down by 12.54 per cent from 57,400 tonnes over the year.
Mexico’s total aluminium imports from the US in the first two months of the year amounted to 99,400 tonnes, lesser by 17.85 per cent from 121,000 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
