According to the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, the Caribbean Island nation's mineral export earnings surged by 27% during the first four months of the year, driven primarily by increased alumina exports.
{alcircleadd}From January to April, the island's Mining and Quarrying sector earned US$206.5 million in export revenue.
Alumina exports played a key role in this growth, reaching US$183.9 million, a 40 per cent rise from the US$131.4 million earned in the same period last year.
However, the sector did face a slight setback with bauxite exports, which fell by 5.6 per cent to US$20.6 million, providing a balanced view of the sector's performance.
