J.F. Ahern teams up with Mid-States Aluminum
Mid-States Aluminum Corporation hosted the meeting at its Fond du Lac facility and presented the results of a Six Sigma project that yielded Mid-States a 10 percent annual utility savings.
Ahern has participated on Mid-States’ internal Six Sigma energy efficiency project team by providing energy management expertise and project implementation. Ahern also worked closely with WAEE President and Focus on Energy Senior Adviser Jerry Eaton to obtain $33,500 in financial incentives to help offset Mid-States’ energy efficiency improvement costs.
Through combined company and association efforts, Mid-States has reduced its yearly operating costs by more than $85,000.
The meeting was attended by more than 40 WAEE and AFE members, and also included a tour of Mid-States’ facility.
Following the tour, WAEE presented its 2011 scholarship awards during a dinner ceremony also sponsored by Ahern. WAEE awarded seven scholarships totaling $4,500 to engineering students.
Funding for the awards is supported through WAEE member contributions.
“Ahern is honored to have participated in such an important project for Mid-States, and to support these engineering associations,” Bahr said. “It’s thrilling to share this success story with two organizations that are leading the efforts in enabling Wisconsin businesses to operate more efficiently and competitively during a challenging economic climate.”
WAEE provides information and best practices for energy engineering and management, alternative energy and sustainability, as well as power generation and energy services.
The organization has more than 200 members from various companies, professions and utility providers throughout Wisconsin.
AFE is a professional organization of 5,000 members that serves as a resource for education, certification and technical information to plant and facility engineering, operation and maintenance professionals worldwide.
Ahern employs approximately 900 employees that are experts in mechanical and fire protection contracting.
