Latest updates of Lake Hope HPA

Pre-feasibility study on the Lake Hope High Purity Alumina has been completed, delivering a billion-dollar NPV in Australian dollars.

Acquiring proprietary processing technologies from a failed competitor, which is deemed to be a fantastic match for the back end of the Lake Hope feedstock, which shall further aid in improving the project’s entire economics

More details of the project

Located about 500 km east of Perth, Lake Hope is a salt lake whose top two meters contain surface-level clay deposits which are rich in feedstock minerals. These can be further used to process into high-purity alumina. HPA is considered an important material which is essential for energy transition technologies like LEDs, semiconductors and lithium-ion batteries.

The managing director further highlighted in the conversation that the project’s pre-feasibility study was based on Lake Hope’s back-end processes. Moreover, the project’s unique processing method and the shallow resource depth make it one of the lowest-cost producers of HPA globally.

Future outlook of the project

Jones, in the conversation, stated that in the coming years, the use of the HPA alumina will be merely 20 per cent. This is because it is challenging to make and pose with significant barriers. However, after eliminating these barriers, HPA is deemed to have a high potential.

In 2026, the pilot plant will be developed, which will be produced on a small scale. A scoping study will also be conducted with expansion into the North American territory, with a Nasdaq listing by 2027.
