HZL to launch specialized zinc-aluminium alloy at the International Galvanising Conference 2016

EDITED BY : DIPANWITA GUPTA 2MINS READ

Integrated mining and resource producer Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) is poised to lunch its specialized product- a high-end zinc die casting alloy produced using primary zinc and pure aluminium that will cater to the flourishing die-casting needs of the automobile, household appliances, sanitary-ware and defence sectors. Through it, the Vedanta subsidiary intends to capitalize on the new opportunities that these sectors are offering at present. The new zinc-aluminium alloy will also replace the imported alloy on which the domestic industry has depended on so far, HZL said.

The company is also gearing up to start production of the Toning Alloy series which is used in steel galvanisation for precise control of aluminium in galvanising bath.

India's Steel Minister Chaudhary Birendra Singh will launch the zinc-aluminium alloy at the International Galvanising Conference to be held in Delhi starting tomorrow, HZL updated.

News

According to International Zinc Association (IZA) Executive Director Stephen Wilkinson auto manufacturers in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan have been relying on galvanised steel for car body panels for years. Their offerings come with anti-corrosion and perforation warranties for a minimum of 10 years. But in India such protection is unavailable for most cars.

Here, the customers have to pay for extra coatings, post purchase, in order to protect the body of their car. Most of the cars manufactured and/or sold in India acquire surface rust which reduces strength of steel and hence, the life of the car, Wilkinson added.

HZL reported a 15 per cent fall in net profit at INR1,901.87 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2016. "The y-o-y decrease for Q2 2016-17 was due to higher depreciation and lower investment income on account of smaller corpus despite higher mark to market gains," the company said in a statement.
