Hydro Wrexham welcomes Barry Salisbury as new Managing Director

Barry Salisbury, a native of Wrexham, has been named the new managing director of Hydro's aluminium recycling plant located in Wrexham, UK.

Assuming his position in January 2024, Barry will transition from his previous role as operations manager at the same recycling facility. He takes over the reins from Wayne Clifton, another Wrexham native, who has been elevated to the position of Head of Recycling Europe at Hydro. In his new capacity, Salisbury will report directly to Clifton.

Barry, who holds a first-class bachelor’s degree with honours in Mechatronic Engineering from the University of Manchester, has been serving as the Maintenance Manager at Hydro Wrexham since 2013. While ensuring the safety of every employee at the plant remains his utmost priority, Barry equally emphasises the cultivation of a thriving and positive work environment.

Barry Salisbury said, "I am very excited and proud to take on the position of Managing Director for Hydro Wrexham. My most important task is to continue our good safety record, going accident-free for six and a half years, an achievement made possible thanks to our highly skilled and dedicated team. Putting safety first enables us to have the culture needed to provide a high-quality product."

However, during his tenure at the company, Barry has amassed extensive expertise across various facets of the plant, including planning, materials optimisation, logistics, and production. His journey culminated in his recent role as Operations Manager, which serves as a springboard for his current promotion.

Wrexham plays a pivotal role in facilitating the green transition in both the UK and Europe. Operating under the umbrella of the global aluminium company Hydro, Hydro Wrexham specialises in producing recycled aluminium derived from post-consumer and industrial aluminium scrap.

The plant boasts an annual production capacity of 70,000 tonnes, catering primarily to major UK and European industries, such as building and construction. These sectors increasingly rely on access to responsibly sourced materials with a low-carbon footprint to support the development of eco-friendly infrastructure necessary for the green transition.
