UAE-headquartered Gulftainer and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE’s largest industrial company outside oil and gas, have signed a strategic agreement to strengthen aluminium exports through Khorfakkan Port on the country’s East Coast, outside the Strait of Hormuz.
The agreement comes as EGA continues to diversify its outbound logistics to ensure reliable deliveries to customers in international markets. Under the arrangement, the company will route up to 250,000 tonnes of aluminium through Khorfakkan in the first year, rising to up to 300,000 tonnes in the second year. Volumes could increase further in subsequent years.
Khorfakkan Port to support EGA’s export operations
The partnership will strengthen the port’s role in handling EGA’s aluminium shipments while supporting the company’s growing logistics requirements. To meet these needs, Gulftainer will further develop port capabilities to accommodate the planned volumes.

The arrangement is also intended to improve the efficiency and resilience of EGA’s outbound logistics as the company continues to serve customers across global markets.
Farid Belbouab, Group CEO of Gulftainer, said: “This agreement goes far beyond logistics – it is about building resilience for UAE trade. By enabling Emirates Global Aluminium’s increasing logistics demand through the UAE’s East Coast, we are providing a strategic, efficient and reliable gateway to global markets. It underscores Gulftainer’s fully integrated platform in serving the nation’s most strategic industries.”
EGA seeks reliable access to international markets
EGA’s logistics strategy is closely linked to its international customer base, which spans more than 50 countries. The company is continuing to develop alternative export routes to support deliveries of its metal to these markets.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “EGA is the biggest ‘premium aluminium’ producer in the world, and our customers in more than 50 countries need our metal. We have already made considerable progress diversifying our outbound logistics to ensure reliable deliveries. Today’s agreement with Gulftainer is another important step forward.”
