India’s aluminium alloy imports plunge 33% in August as LME prices climb
India’s imports of unwrought aluminium alloys under HS code 760120 declined 32.7 per cent year on year to 21,771 tonnes in August 2026, from 32,340 tonnes a year earlier, as higher international aluminium prices increased procurement costs and weighed on import demand. The average LME aluminium cash-settlement price rose 3 per cent month on month to USD 3,249.63 per tonne in August from USD 3,155.98 per tonne in July, potentially prompting Indian buyers to defer purchases amid elevated prices. The August decline followed a modest recovery in July, when imports rose 4.6 per cent year on year to 32,453 tonnes from 31,035 tonnes. Aluminium profile exports remained at a high level in September, with a downward shift expected in the fourth quarter
According to customs data, aluminium profile exports from China in September 2026 totalled 92,700 tonnes, up 0.2 per cent month-on-month and 26.5 per cent year-on-year. Total exports for January-September reached 722,300 tonnes, up 10.7 per cent year-on-year. September exports set a new monthly high for 2026. Aluminium profile exports have moved from a recovery phase in the second quarter to a high plateau: the total volume has remained around 90,000 tonnes for three consecutive months. By province, September was characterised by generally stable volumes, but noticeable shifts in the regional structure. Germany’s aluminium FRP exports to Poland fall 16% through July 2026
Germany’s aluminium flat-rolled product (FRP) exports to Poland fell 16.3 per cent year on year in January–July 2026, reaching 86,723 tonnes, compared with 103,658 tonnes in the same period of 2025. The volume was also 2.8 per cent lower than the 89,181 tonnes recorded in January–July 2024. However, exports were 2 per cent higher than the 85,018 tonnes shipped during the first seven months of 2023. The decline follows an increase in shipments during the previous two years. Exports rose 16.2 per cent between January–July 2024 and the same period in 2025, while the 2024 volume was 5 per cent higher than in 2023. Mexico seeks US tariff relief on aluminium, steel and vehicles before end of 2026
Mexico hopes to secure a favourable response from the United States to its request for lower tariffs on aluminium, steel and vehicles before the end of 2026, Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said. The Trump administration imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Mexican aluminium and steel and 25 per cent tariffs on vehicles, with an exemption for vehicles with US content. The duties were introduced on national security grounds under Section 232 of the US Trade Expansion Act. Germany exports 86% of TRIMET’s aluminium production despite 1.84Mt domestic demand from automotive, packaging & extrusion industries
Germany’s last remaining primary aluminium producer, TRIMET Aluminium SE, has a combined nameplate capacity of approximately 540,000 tonnes per year across its German and French smelters. Yet Germany exported 466,756 tonnes of unwrought primary aluminium in 2025, equivalent to 86.44 per cent of that combined capacity. Exports reached 501,678 tonnes in 2023 and 449,590 tonnes in 2024, while shipments totalled 273,080 tonnes between January and July 2026. Vietnam’s proposed aluminium export tax cuts draw VCCI support, with call for wider 0% rates
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has welcomed Vietnam’s proposed cuts to aluminium export taxes but urged the Ministry of Finance to go further by reducing rates to 0 per cent for additional products. The move could help domestic producers clear excess inventory, ease cash flow pressures and improve competitiveness. The proposal comes as Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance prepares amendments to Decree 26/2023/ND-CP, which governs export and import tax rates.
