
The global demand for recycled aluminium is expected to grow at a faster pace in the coming years. The global aluminium scrap recycling market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.59% during the period 2017-2021, according to Technavio’s analysts.
Greece purchased US$56.7 billion worth of goods from around the world in 2017, an increase of 19.2% from 2016 Aluminium scrap import by Greece also increased 6% year on year in 2017. The country’s import of aluminium scrap increased in both volume and value in 2017 when compared to 2016 data.

According to the international trade data, Greece imported 37905 tonnes of aluminium scrap in 2017, a 6% up from its 2016 imports totalling 35731 tonnes. In 2018, the country’s import of aluminium scrap is estimated to decline 8% from last year. Greece is estimated to import 34955 tonnes of aluminium scrap in 2018.

The cost of aluminium scrap imports in Greece increased on a yearly basis. Total aluminium scrap imports was valued at US$50 million in 2016, which increased to reach US$51 million in 2017. In 2018, the value is estimated to increase further and reach US$62 million.
Bulgaria exported the largest chunk of aluminium scrap to the country in 2017. According to recent statistics, the top five exporters of aluminium scrap in 2017 were Bulgaria (7561 tonnes), Israel (5022 tonnes), Thailand (3820 tonnes), Saudi Arabia (3302 tonnes) and Italy (2315 tonnes).
