GAIL (India) Limited has entered into agreements to develop a 600 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh, the company said on April 15, 2026.
{alcircleadd}The project will come up at a solar park near Jhansi, with TUSCO Limited acting as the developer. The agreements were signed by Parivesh Chugh, executive director (strategic development and renewables) at GAIL, and Anil Tyagi, chief executive officer of TUSCO.
The facility will incorporate a 550 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to support grid stability and manage power supply more efficiently. Electricity generated from the project will largely be used to meet the captive energy needs of GAIL’s petrochemical complex at Pata in Auraiya district.

The installation is also expected to cater to rising electricity demand linked to the electrification of gas-based systems and the expansion of compressed biogas plants across the state.
GAIL said the move is intended to secure a steady supply of clean power for its industrial operations while advancing its broader transition towards sustainable energy. The initiative is also aimed at lowering dependence on conventional fossil fuels.
The purpose of TUSCO’s partnership will be to, through the existing solar infrastructure and available skills, provide further renewable energy capacity in Uttar Pradesh, as well as to assist in a larger scale of support for decarbonisation of industry.
