Exlabesa’s €25 million aluminium plant in Soure promises economic growth & 120 new jobs

Exlabesa, a global leader in producing industrial aluminium components, is inaugurating a new production facility in Soure, located in the Coimbra district of Portugal. This €25 million investment is expected to bolster the local economy significantly.

According to a statement from the municipality of Soure, the company specialises in aluminium extrusion—a hot transformation process that shapes aluminium into various components—and has been working on this investment for over 12 years. However, it has only recently reached a crucial implementation stage without relying on EU funds. The new facility will create 120 direct jobs.

The new factory in Soure spans 8.6 hectares—approximately the size of 10 standard football pitches—and features a covered area of one hectare. It has two 2,800-tonne aluminium extrusion lines, boasting an annual production capacity of 16,000 tonnes of extruded profiles.

This facility will be Exlabesa's tenth production centre, complementing its operations in the USA, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, and Morocco. Exlabesa serves 16,000 customers across 40 countries, focusing on civil construction, automotive, transport, infrastructure, and renewable energy sectors.

Other expansion plan in Portugal

Exlabesa has announced an ambitious expansion plan in Portugal, involving an investment of over €45 million. This plan will more than triple the size of the current covered facility, aiming to achieve an annual production capacity of 45,000 tonnes.

The multinational has acquired two additional plots in the Soure industrial area adjacent to the site. It is in the final stages of planning a project to create 200 new jobs. The official inauguration of the Soure factory, which has been operational since 2023, is scheduled for 4:00 pm today and will be attended by João Rui Ferreira, Secretary of State for the Economy.
